Lyrics

Hard Bark
A hard bark has grown upon me
come sit in my shade and sing
a thousand storms have bent not broke me
when I die they’ll count my rings
Oak walnut maple hickory
the wind through all our leaves does sing
a song that sometimes lasts a century
when I die they’ll count my rings
A heart with two names carved in my bark
with an arrow right through
An old man sits in my shade
takes off his shirt
we compare tattoos
And make a fine guitar
from the wood of my trunk
where my grain is straight and true
and every time you play it
I’ll speak to you
